My 21st Birthday Wish

January 22nd, 2010 (05:59 pm)

Dear friends,

My 21st birthday is in about four weeks (February 17). Obviously, I'm getting really excited about it. The first year of my 20s has been truly incredible, full of amazing experiences that I'd only imagined in my wildest dreams. I've been blessed with a wonderful family and beautiful friends. Year 20 has been, without a doubt, a joyful one.

I'm perpetually in awe that, in the midst of all the suffering in our world, there remains great joy, such capacity to love and such generosity of spirit. It's been especially evident in the wake of the devastating earthquake in Haiti last week.

I've been so blessed. Now, it's time to give back. There's really nothing I need for my birthday. I won't lie; there are a lot of things I'd love to have and tons of places I'd love to go. But I don't need those things, and it's hard to make extravagant birthday wishes when there are people out there who are hurting so badly.

So, there is only one thing I want for my birthday:

Don't give gifts. Give money to Haiti.

The organization Partners In Health has been working on the ground in Haiti for over 20 years, and they're hard at work contributing to the relief effort right now. Glitter: The Kristin Chenoweth Fanclub has established a fundraising campaign to aid the amazing work of Partners in Health in Haiti.

The only thing I want for my birthday is for you to help me raise money for this campaign. Here's how:

a. Go to http://act.pih.org/page/outreach/view/haitiearthquake/GlitterHaitiEarthquakeRelief.
b. Click on the button that says “Click Here to Donate” underneath the thermometer on the right-hand side.
c. On the next page, where you will be asked to enter your credit card information, there is an option to donate in someone’s honor or memory. Select “In honor of…” and list my name, Laura Foster, in the “honoree name” box.
d. List my email address, lauraonbway@gmail.com, in the “email” box below so I can be notified of the donation. This helps Glitter keep track of their donations and fundraising progress.

Every dollar helps. It doesn't matter if you give $1, $5, $20, etc...just give anything you can.

Most importantly, give money to Haiti. It doesn't have to have anything to do with me. It can be anonymous, and can be to any organization you support, if you prefer them to Partners In Health.

Thank you for your beautiful hearts. I love you all.
